Cadre Press Release

Greater Chicago Food Depository Selects Cadre's Cadence Logistics System to Streamline Distribution of Donated Food

June 22, 2005, Denver, Colorado, Cadre Technologies today announced that the Greater Chicago Food Depository, one of the largest not-for-profit food distribution centers in the nation, has selected the Cadence Logistics System to organize receipt of food from its donor network and distribution to its 600 member soup kitchens, food pantries and shelters in Cook County, Illinois.

The Cadence warehouse management system will manage inventory in the Food Depository’s new 268,073-square-foot warehouse facility. The system will manage receiving donated food from approximately 635 local and national food companies, grocers, food service organizations, produce markets and growers. The system will expedite putaway, order processing, picking, packing and shipping. Cadre will also provide its order entry system and manage allocations via web storefront and customer service modules which maintain detailed access to warehouse inventory information. Each of the 600 agencies are “customers” to the system which maintains order histories, catalogs of available items and allocation details for enhanced service accuracy.

The Food Depository will implement Cadre’s new Cadence Mobile Logistics, a wireless mobile computer that directs warehouse workers to process orders via a mobile computer using voice commands, bar-codes and mobile browser interface. The facility is equipped with dry, frozen and cooler space.

"The Greater Chicago Food Depository provides a vital service to the Chicago community by channeling an incredible amount of donated food to those in need. Cadre is extremely proud to help improve the service and efficiency of the Food Depository as it transitions its operations to the new facility," said Joe Peters, president of Cadre Technologies. "This facility will make full use of the entire suite of Cadence software modules to significantly enhance distribution efficiencies at every level. By improving logistics and warehouse operations, even more people will be served through improved communication with supplies, community agencies and the internal workforce."

The Greater Chicago Food Depository is Chicago’s food bank and a charter member of America’s Second Harvest, an organization that solicits food from national manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers then makes it available to over 200 member food banks and food rescue organizations throughout the country. The Food Depository also receives substantial food from local donations and purchases made using grants from the USDA, FEMA and food box contracts with the City of Chicago. The Food Depository also maintains strategic purchasing alliances with manufacturers to ensure that staples from pasta to peanut butter are always available.

“We strive continually to deliver excellent service,” said Robert Matlosz, the Food Depository’s director of operations. “Our new facility gives us the capability to double our capacity. By taking our warehouse logistics and operations to the next level with the Cadre warehouse management system, we will be able to provide more food to more people in need."
