Cyber Tea Shop uses Accuplus/LogiView to Overcome “Steep” Challenges

Founder of Two Leaves Tea, Richard Rosenfeld, traveled the world on business, where meetings were synonymous with amazingly flavorful cups of tea.  After returning to the states, Richard looked everywhere for a good cup of tea, but had a hard time finding one.  So, in 2005, he founded Two Leaves Tea Company and traveled to the gardens of China, Sri Lanka and Japan, allowing him to establish relationships with tea growers, bringing premium, whole-leaf tea from the best harvests to tea drinkers around the world.

With the supply side of the equation for Rosenfeld’s new business in place, he looked to tackle the next challenge of establishing distribution capabilities in the U.S.  “We were a typical start-up that had a lot of learning to do,” says Rosenfeld, “Warehousing, inventory management, and shipping are not our core competency, so early on in our evolution we elected to outsource these functions.”  After working with a provider for a number of years and based on the recommendation of a mutual friend, Two Leaves made the decision to switch to Ohio based 3PL company, Ampoint Logistics.  “Ampoint was extremely flexible and easy to work with from day one,” says Rosenfeld.  During the initial discussions, Rosenfeld inquired about e-fulfillment technology.  As a long time customer of Cadre, Ampoint was quick to engage them for direction.  “After learning about LogiView it was a logical step for us to transmit orders automatically from our consumer website to the warehouse for fulfillment.  LogiView enables real-time order processing and gives us near real-time information on shipments, receipts and inventory,” says Rosenfeld.

So how do they do it?

The first step was to establish connectivity between the shopping carts on the Two Leaves website to the Accuplus WMS in use at Ampoint.  To do this they elected to use a web service interface.  LogiView’s “out of the box” web service accepts orders in real time.  The orders are processed and feed directly into Accuplus for fulfillment.  Two Leaves shopping cart and website technology is provided by ZGtec, an eCommerce software company located in Aspen, Colorado.  In support of the interface to LogiView, ZGtec implemented an API module to work with LogiView to both place orders in real time as well as to update orders and inventory on a schedule.

The second step was to integrate the Two Leaves accounting package, QuickBooks, for both order entry and shipment confirmation.  To do this Two Leaves enlisted QuickBooks integrator, Santrio.  Santrio has been at the forefront of providing advanced, easy to use software applications since 2004 for manufacturers, wholesalers, distributors, and warehouses.  Utilizing the same web service technology in place for the shopping cart, business to business orders are exchanged between QuickBooks and LogiView for fulfillment in Accuplus.

And for the final step Ampoint is using the Accuplus small parcel module to integrate with the carrier system.  Working with the carrier support technician, Ampoint is implementing the module in order to provide an electronic interface with the carrier system that facilitates order flow for shipping and to collect shipment confirmations including tracking numbers in order to update Accuplus and ultimately Two Leaves through LogiView.

“With Ampoint and Cadre, we were able to integrate our business systems and drive our logistics costs downward while maintaining our response times and customer service,” says Rosenfeld.  Two Leaves Tea Company has been recognized for the passion, care and effort that goes into cupping our tea, with awards such as Best New Tea award for 2005-2006 from the Specialty Coffee Association of the United States, and the People’s Choice Award at the Great Canadian Tea Steep Off in 2006.
